THE RECREATION CENTER
Rochester’s Swimming & Diving Community Home
The Rochester Recreation Center was built in 1975. At that time, the 50-meter pool was one of the first such INDOOR pools in the country. The Rec Center contains facilities for hockey, swimming and diving. The 50-meter pool at the Rec Center is known as one of the fastest short-course pools in the upper-Midwest. This is a result of it's depth, which was required for the 10-m tower that was present from 1975-1999. Throughout the years, all facilities within the Rec Center have been constantly used every day, nearly year-around. This constant wear and tear required significant work just to keep everything running. A $7 million renovation was carried out in 2015-2016. The project replaced the gutters, plumbing, filtration system, pool liner and added 15 feet to lenth and 8" of depth to the pool. 2 new movable bulkheads were also added to configure the pool for long-and short-course competitions.
